The Lansbury Gardeners, Annual General Meeting 2013 will take place on Thursday 7th November at 10:30 am.

All members of Lansbury Gardeners can choose five packets of seeds for the 2013 season. Deadline extended to Thursday 7th March

Lansbury Young Gardeners

The Young Gardeners started to make marmalade on Tuesday 12th February. Half term next week (19th) so the marmalade will be brought back to the boil on 26th February.

Come along to the Thursday morning session to choose five packets of seeds from a catalogue!

Start of 2013 season.

We are starting our Thursday sessions at 10 am on February 7th. Come along to Hind Grove Community Hall and choose your seeds for 2013.

A Wizard, in a Nordic chariot, sped down from the North to visit the Hind Grove Community Garden. He carried with him a vast array of containers, strainers and a heavy box of honeycomb trays.... which smelled of wood and wax.

Children gathered.... word had spread fast that a Wizard was in town., and they helped to remove the wax, scraping away at the surface. After he had consulted the runes, and spun his spells, a liquid was seen to emerge. The children were amazed. Nobody had seen such magic performed before!

Each child took home a jar of PURE GOLD....

Lansbury Gardeners AGM 2012.

Lansbury Gardeners AGM 2012 will take place on Thursday 1st November 2012. Formal notices will go out soon. The meeting will take place from 10:30 am to 11:30 am. We have chosen half term week.

Gardener sought.

Lansbury Gardeners are seeking a gardener to lead a two hour weekly session for children aged 8 to 12. The venue will be the Hind Grove Community Hall (Hind Grove near the junction with Stainsby Road, London E14).

The project will combine work with "Splash Arts" and Poplar HARCA to provide an "arts and gardening" programme that will last until Spring 2013 and possibly longer.

The session runs Tuesday afternoons from to 4:30pm to 6:30pm.

We are now in the Autumn, we wish to appointment a gardener up to half term and review the project for the winter months.

Pumpkin cutting

The other large pumpkin weighing about 45kg was cut up and shared today.

As there is now little outside gardening to do, we have started to make our seed order list. We have a varied agenda each week - as the weather is not that good if you want to practise reading English and learn more about growing food at the same time come along and join us! We will have a variety of gardening books to look through over the winter months.

Sharing out the pumpkin

Yesterday we shared out two of the rather large atlantic giant pumpkins grown on my allotment with Lansbury Gardeners. The two pumpkins were shared out with at least 12 households, and we still have one more left!

Have just had roasted pumpkin soup made with part of our portion - very tasty. Probably make some curry with the rest.

The garden is now pretty much finished in terms of the major build. The final three bags of bark went down this morning with help from Poplar HARCA who arrived just as I was starting to flag...

Potatoes

June, Mary and Lucille harvested some potatoes today. The crop wasn't that big, but they were very excited!

Purple and green peas, grown by Hafiza. A very wet morning, so wet we could barely get out in the garden - managed a few minutes. Spent the morning chatting.

Carrots!

Today Guley harvested the first of her carrots. Had a great day in the garden - tasting peas and rocket and working out what were weeds and what were not...

Great Radishes!

Umme (left) has managed to grow some very large radishes in her first year at the Hind Grove garden. She shared them with June.

Saturday June 11th - session cancelled

Apologies but the 12.3o to 2pm session on Saturday June 11th 2011 has had to be cancelled. Our next session will be on Thursday June 16th from 10 to 12noon.

We are still looking for more volunteers to help run our sessions. The Saturday session in particular needs more people to commit to helping out and now needs two people to support it. Get in touch if you think you can help.

Menteath House Garden

Built in two (half) days. One day to put the wooden raised beds together from a kit of parts, and then a second day to put the beds in place and fill them with top soil and manure.

Menteath House Garden is almost done! Eight raised beds, in place, filled with compost and topsoil. A great effort from the team!
